LAST NIGHT, THE Grammy Awards took place in New York – and as at the Golden Globes earlier this month, the focus was on the #MeToo movement.

Stars like Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson and Miley Cyrus wore white roses on the red carpet as a symbol of solidarity with survivors of sexual harassment and assault.

It was Kesha who brought the emotional heft during the ceremony with a near-tearful performance of her song Praying, which she dedicated to the movement.

Praying was released in the wake of the singer’s legal battle with her former producer Dr Luke, who she claims sexually abused her for years – in the lyrics, she tries to find healing through forgiveness.

Kesha was joined onstage by other female vocalists including Cyndi Lauper and Camila Cabello, along with a backing choir she dubbed the Resistance Revival Chorus.

Kesha was introduced by the singer and actress Janelle Monae, who called for an end to inequality in the music business as well as Hollywood.

It’s right here in our industry as well. We also have the power to undo the culture that does not serve us well. So let’s work together, women and men, as a united music industry committed to creating safer work environments with equal pay and access for all women.

“We come in peace, but we mean business,” she said.

Praying was in the running for Best Pop Solo Performance, but the award ultimately went to Ed Sheeran and Shape of You. Kesha, you’re a winner in our eyes.
